Collaborative to End Institutional Racism in Louisiana

Join the Collaborative

Individuals and organizations can work collectively through a collaborative aimed at ending institutional racism in Louisiana – with the first order of business to have our state declare Racism a Public Health Crisis.

Purpose

This collaborative will work with diverse individuals and multi-sectoral organizations to develop an action plan:

(1) To recognize and address structural racism as a social determinant of health, with persistent racial disparities in criminal justice, housing, education, health care, employment, worker protections, climate, food access, and technology.

(2) To move forward in changing the narrative of our state and engage all communities to advance health equity.

(3) To build the capacity of collaborative members to discuss institutional racism in the context of health equity and to build the capacity of members to create policies to address root cause issues.

According to the American Public Health Association, the declarations currently happening across our nation are an important first step in the movement to advance racial equity and justice and must be followed by allocation of resources and strategic action. There are currently 7 states and Washington DC with legislation towards this end.

Other states/municipalities in the movement with draft or final legislation: Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, Virginia, Minnesota, Utah, Washington DC.
